SUMMER CAMP 2020

Febuary 21-24 Coaches Edson and Jenny made a trip to Brazil to participate in a Muay Thai camp in Santos, SP at Muay Thai gym 013. Santos is considered the Bangkok of Brazil. Joao Fernandes and Felipe Cazolari were the coaches at the camp. Joao has traveled to Thailand as an athlete and he trained at several Muay Thai training center to prepare for a fight in Thailand. During his experience he found his calling as a Muay Thai coach. Cazolari has not traveled to Thailand to train but his passion for the sport guided his growth in knowledge and during his career as a coach has had very successful athletes. Both Joao and Cazolari considered the top Muay Thai coaches of authentic Muay Thai in Brazil.
DAY ONE
The morning training was 8 a.m. -11 a.m. focused on basic drills and footwork. After the morning workout the group headed to a local restaurant for lunch. Shortly after lunch we headed back to the gym. The afternoon training was 3 hours of clinching. Joao and Cazolari shared effective clinching methods and defensive techniques.
DAY TWO
Training began at 8 a.m. with a 5 km (3.1 mile) group run to warm up. The focus of the training was conditioning. The group was slip into groups shadow boxing/ light sparring and Thai pad work. For 2 hours the groups rotated doing three min round of pads or sparring. Cazolari and Joao also held Thai pad for one-on-one to give critiques and tips to improve movements. In the afternoon, we met back at the gym for Q&A session with the coaches. The topics of discussion covered Muay Thai rules, tips to prepare fighters, travels to Thailand, etc..
DAY THREE
Warm-up began again at 8 a.m. with a 6 km (4 mile) group run. The training included kick, teep, sweeps, & blocking drills/ techniques. Around 11:30 a.m training ended and the group headed out for lunch.
After lunch, the group headed to the beach for a team building activity. The group was divided into two teams of 10 people. The challenge was to beat the other team rowing in a Hawaiian canoe
